Departure to Al Hoceima. The town is located on the Mediterranean Coast and well known for its yachting and fishing port. Many houses were built on several terraces rising from the shore.The harbour is sheltered by high cliffs. Continuation to Chefchaouen. The small town at the foothills of the Rif Mountains at an altitude of 600 m was founded in the 15th century. Many houses are painted in blue and white. Nowadays the town looks more Andalusian than oriental. The fresh air and the friendliness of the inhabitants create a special atmosphere. Dinner and overnight.
Departure to Tangier – also named ‘The gate to Europe’ due to its location on the Strait of Gibraltar. The city offers a fascinating mix of Africa, Europe and the Orient. It has inspired many European and American artists (painters, musicians and writers). You will discover the ‘Grand Socco’, a busy place with an original architecture, and the Medina with its narrow streets and the ‘Little Socco’ square in the centre. You will also visit the Kasbah which dominates the old town and the harbour. Dinner and overnight.
Departure southwards to Assilah. The clean and well-kept town on the Atlantic coast offers a beautiful beach. The ramparts which were built by the Portuguese in the 15th century have three gates which are still in a good condition. Other remains of the past are impressive towers and bastions.
The local people live mainly from fishing and agriculture. Then the road leads to Rabat. Visit of the political capital with its famous landmark Hassan Tower and the ruined pillars, the splendid Mausoleum of Mohamed V, the Royal Palace (exterior) and the Kasbah of the Ouadayas which offers a nice view on the mouth of Bouregreg River and the ocean. Continuation to Meknes. Dinner and overnight.
In the morning visit of Meknes. The city is surrounded by about 25 miles of triple walls and also known as ‘Versailles of Morocco’. You will discover the city of Sultan Moulay Ismail, El Hedim Square, the Medina and the majestic gate ‘Bab Mansour’ which is deemed to be the most beautiful gate in North Africa. Then the road leads to Fez. The oldest of the four imperial cities is located in a hilly landscape surrounded by the Sais plain. The Medina with its medieval charm and numerous craftsmen has been classified as ‘World Cultural Heritage Site’ by UNESCO since 1981.In the vibrant Souks some alleys are only wide enough for a laden donkey to pass through. Fez was founded during the 8th century by Moulay Idriss and in the past also the capital of several dynasties. You will discover more of the spiritual and cultural capital of Morocco: the Karaouiine Mosque and Mausoleum Moulay Idriss (exterior), Medersa Attarine, Bab Bou Jeloud, Najjarine Fountain and the leather tannery.
